Use Your Back Button! – If you want to return to the previous page, the easiest way is to click the “back button,” in the top left corner of your browser window. If the back button is greyed out and cannot be used, this means a new browser window has opened. To return to the previous window, close the current window by clicking the “X” (close button) in the upper right corner of the window.

Printing

Backgrounders and Lesson Plans

Each of the Backgrounders and Lesson Plans found on this site is available as “a print-friendly” PDF document. (In order to print without cutting off the right side of the page, you have to use this option, or else follow the instructions for “Other Pages” below.) Click the “Printable Version” button to open a print-friendly PDF document of the backgrounder or lesson plan you are currently viewing. Note: Lesson Plan handouts are included in the same document as the Lesson Plan. To view the PDF document, the free program, Adobe Reader, must be installed. Most schools have Adobe Reader or – if not – you can download it for free by going to:

Other Pages

If you wish to print other pages within our site that do not have print-friendly versions (or if you are not able to install Adobe Reader), you will need to print the pages in landscape format. If you do not know how to print in landscape format, please follow the instructions for your particular browser.

PC

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0

To print using Internet Explorer 6.0, it’s best to change your page orientation to landscape. To change the page orientation:

Click on File in the toolbar to open the File menu
Select Print to open the Print dialogue box
Click the Layout or Setup tab to view Layout options
Under the Orientation heading, select Landscape.
Click the Print button.

Once changed, your browser window will retain this setting until it is closed or manually changed.

Netscape Navigator 7.2

To print using Netscape Navigator 7.2, the print scale should be set to “Shrink to Fit.” Usually, your Netscape Navigator 7.2 will already be set up to do this, so just go ahead and print. If you have problems, try this:

Click on File in the toolbar to open the File menu
Select Print Preview to open the Print Preview window
Ensure the Scale drop-down menu in the toolbar is set to Shrink to Fit.

Once you’ve done this, press the Print button.

MAC

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1

To print using Internet Explorer 5.1, the “Shrink Pages to Fit” should be selected. Usually, your Internet Explorer 5.1 should default to this setting. However, if you have problems, try this:

Click on File in the toolbar to open the File menu
Select Print Preview to open the Print Preview window
Ensure Shrink Pages to Fit is selected.

Once you’ve done this, press the Print button.

Adobe Reader

Many of our pages contain print-friendly PDF documents. To view these documents, the free program, Adobe Reader, must be installed. To download Adobe Reader and receive installation and troubleshooting instructions, please visit Adobe’s web site:
