Golden Horn Elementary: Eco-Challenge for Primary Students

Grade: 1 & 2

Golden Horn Elementary is a rural school outside of the city of Whitehorse, Yukon.

Project details

During the Earth Week competition, Ms. Lopushinsky's class did the following:

  • Completed the Lights Off activity and for 2 weeks tracked light use and reduced the amount of time the lights were on during the conservation week.
  • Completed an on-line environmental story/program called The Magical Thread.
  • Made Eco-Magnets.
  • Completed the Family Commitment activity and created posters that demonstrated their commitments.
  • Hosted a school pancake breakfast to celebrate the Earth and do a yard clean-up.
  • Listened to environmental songs.
  • Went to swan haven and learned about the environment.
  • Made environmental posters out of recycled materials and put them up in the school halls.
  • Read conservation books every day during the competition.
